Stonehenge Therapeutic Community received a 2024 Community Grant to support the well-being of people living at 10 Shelldale Crescent, an affordable housing community in Guelph for individuals who have faced long-term homelessness, poverty, and addiction. The project aimed to reduce isolation and improve wellness by creating space for movement and connection.
Thanks to the grant, residents were welcomed into a brighter, more engaging space filled with small but powerful supports, exercise equipment, craft supplies, and board games. These additions opened the door to gentle movement, creativity, and shared laughter. Whether painting quietly in the morning or gathering for a game night, neighbours had new opportunities to feel connected and uplifted.
The change was felt quickly and deeply. Residents shared how they felt more energized, motivated, and hopeful. Regular access to exercise helped build strength and confidence. Art offered a calming outlet for expression. And games brought joy, playfulness, and friendship. What started as small activities became into a stronger sense of community and personal pride.
One resident shared that they had never used exercise equipment before. But with this new resource available in a safe, supportive space, they began moving their body, feeling stronger, and looking to the future with more hope.
