North End Harvest Market Multicultural Food Project
Meet Barb, from the North End Harvest Market, who shares the inspiring story of the Multicultural Food Project, an initiative that brings free fresh produce and cultural exchange together at Guelph’s weekly food market. Serving many low-income and newcomer families, the program helps improve access to nutritious food while celebrating the diverse food traditions that make up the community. Supported by the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th and the Guelph Community Foundation’s Multicultural Food Grant, the project is about more than food, it’s about building connections, sharing knowledge, and strengthening community.

Grand River Conservation Foundation: 800 Tree Forest for Canada’s 150th
As part of Canada’s 150th, the Grand River Conservation Foundation, with support from The Guelph Community Foundation and the Government of Canada, created the Learning Grove at the future Guelph Lake Nature Centre, a growing forest of 800 trees planted by community members. The project provides hands-on environmental education, helping children and families build lasting connections with nature while learning about conservation, climate action, and stewardship. Designed as a living legacy for future generations, the Learning Grove will continue to inspire visitors for years to come, thanks to the support of donors and community partners.

Guelph Public Library Bookmobile for Canada’s 150th
In celebration of Canada’s 150th, the Guelph Public Library took learning beyond its walls with an innovative Bookmobile that brings books, technology, and hands-on STEM programming directly into the community. Featuring robots, portable 3D printers, coding activities, and other interactive learning opportunities, the mobile learning centre helps people of all ages develop new skills and discover library services in fun and accessible ways. Meet Steve Kraft, Kirsten Bester, and the Bookmobile team as they take learning to the streets of Guelph, made possible through the support of the Guelph Community Foundation.

Canadian Seniors: Our Roots, Our Future
To celebrate Canada’s 150th, local seniors in Wellington County took centre stage through Our Voices, a community theatre project supported by The Guelph Community Foundation, Community Foundations of Canada, and the Government of Canada. Bringing together people aged 55 and older, the project provided a space for seniors to share their stories, reflect on their experiences, and explore what Canada 150 means to them through original scenes, music, and performance. With the support of local artists and theatre professionals, Our Voices amplified the perspectives of older adults and celebrated their important role in the community.

Elliott Community: Veterans Memorial Garden featuring a Vimy Ridge Oak
As part of Canada’s 150th, the Elliott Community in Guelph created a Veterans Memorial Garden featuring a very special Vimy Ridge Oak Tree, grown from an acorn connected to the historic Battle of Vimy Ridge. Designed as a therapeutic and interactive space for residents, families, and visitors, the garden celebrates the service of veterans while also providing opportunities for education, reflection, and intergenerational connection through its pollinator garden and accessible landscape. Elora Centre for the Arts: Canadian Art, Eh?
Supported by the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th in collaboration with The Guelph Community Foundation and the Government of Canada, the Elora Centre for the Arts inspired young artists through a special Canadian Art Camp celebrating the work of renowned Canadian creators. Children explored artistic techniques, creativity, and Canadian culture by creating original artworks inspired by artists such as Maud Lewis, while learning concepts like perspective, colour, and composition. Wall Mural: Celebrating 150 years of volunteerism, painted by 150 volunteers
Supported by The Guelph Community Foundation as part of Canada’s 150th celebrations, this collaborative mural brought together more than 150 local volunteers to recognize the spirit of volunteerism that has helped shape the Guelph community. Led by artist Meredith Blackmore, the project invited community members of all ages and skill levels to contribute to a vibrant public artwork celebrating people in helping roles and the impact of giving back.
