Silence Guelph received a 2024 Musagetes Fund to support its year round programs and day to day operations. This funding helped the organization continue offering inclusive and accessible arts experiences, and to flourish as a creative gathering space in downtown Guelph!
Silence is known for its focus on experimental sound, music, and art. It acts as a welcoming “third place”, a space outside of home and work where people can express themselves, and feel part of a community. The grant helped cover the important operating fundamentals like staff wages, marketing, space upkeep, and regular programming. At a time when it’s hard to find funding for these essentials, this support made a big difference.
Over the past year, Silence buzzed with creative energy, hosting events like Audiopollination Guelph, monthly Youth Jazz Jams, and live performances by experimental artists from around the world. A big highlight of the year was the chance to welcome partner organizations into the space: Ed Video Media Arts Centre moved into the back gallery, while the Guelph Jazz Festival joined the front office. Together, these organizations created a shared home for creativity, collaboration, and mutual support.
With this support, Silence kept its programs going and also grew its role as a shared creative space. The grant helped build stronger community connections and gave artists a place to explore, create, and collaborate. With support offered through funding, Silence continues to be a meaningful space for artists and audiences in the heart of Guelph.
