Home for Good at the Guelph Storm Game

A thrilling game night with over $6,000 raised!

What an unforgettable Friday night at the March 6th Guelph Storm hockey game as the Guelph Storm OHL team faced off against the Owen Sound Attack. The Home for Good Campaign took centre stage as the featured charity for the night and over $6,000 was raised! Building on the success of last year, the energy was electric as fans cheered, 50/50 tickets were selling fast and the Chuck-a-Puck tosses brought everyone into the action for raising funds and awareness for addressing chronic homelessness in Guelph and Wellington County.

Highlights from the Game

The evening began with a ceremonial puck drop featuring Terri Millar from Meridian Credit Union, Glenna Banda from United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin, and Sarah Haanstra from The Guelph Community Foundation. This introduced the purpose of the night and the partnership behind it, and then the game began!

The 50/50 draw ran throughout the game, with proceeds from the fundraisers supporting the Home for Good Campaign. Information and donations tables were set up along the concourse, where attendees could learn more about the Home for Good Campaign and purchase an orange puck to throw as a part of the Chuck‑a‑Puck fundraiser. Fundraising prizes included a commemorative stick signed by the 2025–2026 Guelph Storm team, one hundred dollars in cash courtesy of Freedom Mobile, and other items.

Held at the Sleeman Centre, Guelph Storm beat the Owen Sound Attack 8-1 in an incredible victory. Sharing in this celebration was United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin, The Guelph Community Foundation, and event sponsors Meridian Credit Union, who all came together to help put on this fundraising event. Thank you to everyone who helped make this exciting evening such a success!

About the Home for Good Campaign

The Home for Good Campaign is a project of The Guelph Community Foundation and United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin to reduce the number of people in Guelph and Wellington County experiencing chronic homelessness by 50 percent. The campaign aims to raise 5 million dollars to build permanent supportive housing (PSH) units in the community.

Since the Campaign started PSH has already shown strong results in improving stability for individuals who face long-term homelessness. These homes offered long‑term stability along with supports related to mental health, food security, wellness, and daily living. It provided safe housing along with programs that supported health, independence, and daily needs. While multiple strategies are required to address homelessness, Friday’s game night showed once again how impactful it is when the community comes together to support this work.
