Last week, our team enjoyed our annual summer staff fun day where we go out into the city and get to experience what it has to offer! We love getting to visit some of our amazing grantees and community partners and are inspired by the work that they are doing. We started with a delicious sushi lunch and then explored the rich history of our city.
We visited the McCrae House, which was the first time for most of our staff visiting this National Historic Site and we learned so much! The McCrae House is the birthplace of John McCrae, doctor, soldier and author of the famous First World War poem “In Flanders Fields”. We especially liked the beautiful memorial gardens which were in full bloom.
After seeing the musem and the gardens we walked along the Speed River and through the local parks. We were delighted to grab some ice cream from the iconic Boathouse Tea Room. We finished the day touring the Art Gallery of Guelph and the Donald Forster Sculpture Park. Did you know, the Sculpture Park, is actually the largest sculpture park at a public gallery in Ontario!?
Inside the gallery we had a great time connecting with the always wonderful staff and enjoying some truly incredible artworks of all kinds. We especially enjoyed their Guelph-centered 155,578 group exhibition which received support from GCF’s Musagetes Fund. It’s always so great getting to see these things in person, and we feel so lucky to be able to do our part in helping support the incredible non-profits which make Guelph such a great place, filled with history, beauty, and community spirit!
