Easter Seals Ontario’s Equipment Funding Program received a grant from our 2024 Community Grants program to support their work with children and youth in Guelph living with physical disabilities.
The Funding Program helps families purchase vital mobility and accessibility equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, ramps, lifts, and specialized seating. These items are often not fully covered by government programs or private insurance. As a third-party funder, Easter Seals pays equipment vendors directly, helping to bridge the financial gap for families who would otherwise be unable to afford the high cost of these necessities. These support items play a crucial role in promoting safety, independence, and dignity for children who require specialized equipment to move and participate safely in their homes and communities
This most recent grant helped to provide three essential pieces of equipment to a Guelph family: a bath commode, a bath seat, and a walker. One family shared how a bath seat will make a significant difference for their son who cannot sit upright without support. The seat will ensure his safety during bath time and reduce physical strain on his parents. This program helps children move with greater independence and dignity, allowing them to actively participate in everyday activities and social life.
Easter Seals works closely with children’s treatment centers to ensure the right equipment is provided based on individual needs. Their funding program operates year-round, recognizing that as children grow, their equipment needs evolve. Easter Seals connects this work to the broader goal of improving physical and mental well-being for children with disabilities, helping to reduce isolation and foster inclusion.
