Terry Doyle Scholarship Fund (scholarship fund supporting dramatic arts)
Over 600 theatre patrons, sponsors, Rotarians, friends and family members gathered at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse on January 28, 2006 to pay tribute to the late Terry Doyle with a spirited celebration of music and laughter. Terry Doyle died suddenly while performing in the opening night performance of Beauty and the Beast in Grand Bend.
Terry was a proud family man with his wife Joyce, two sons, and five grandchildren. He was also a community champion as a former board member for the River Run Centre, an active member of the Norfolk United Church, and a long-standing Guelph Rotarian.
Upon Terry’s passing, several Rotarians gathered together and discussed how they could preserve Terry’s spirit. They approached The Guelph Community Foundation and established a scholarship fund in Terry’s name. The Terry Doyle Scholarship Fund will provide youth with financial assistance towards post-secondary study in the performing arts. While Terry will be missed by all, his legacy and exceptional character will continue.
Countless studies cite instances of successful applicants chosen from the ‘arts field’ for their ability to work in varied environments with confidence and great problem-solving skills. Walter Pitman, noted educator, writes “Education in the arts is essential to students’ intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth”.
